Learn how new windows can impact the value of your home.Wonder how replacing those old, worn-out windows will impact the resale value of your home? Each year, Remodeling Magazine releases its Cost vs. Value Report that according to the publication's editor, "attempts to quantify these concerns (of property value) by comparing cost-to-construct with added resale value for a selection of the most common remodeling projects. This year, like last, the Report targets 35 cities listed as top remodeling markets by the Harvard University Joint Center for Housing Studies."
Additionally, the Report identifies the averages for these projects by market. Chicago market information includes the following:
* Mid-range project description: replace 10 existing 3-by-5 foot double hung windows with vinyl- or aluminum-clad, dual glazed, wood replacement windows. Wrap existing trim as required to match. Do not disturb existing interior trim. ** Upscale project description: replace 10 existing 3-by-5 foot double hung windows with dual glazed, simulated divided-lite windows. Interior finish of adler or cherry; exterior finish of copper or aluminum cladding. Trim interior to match window material; trim exterior to matching existing. |
